On June 27, downtown business leaders packed Station Houston for Central Houston’s member breakfast focused on creating a vibrant innovation hub in downtown. The event featured a distinguished panel who shared insight into how downtown can develop an innovation district. Panelist Diana Murakhovskaya, Co-founder of Monarq, John “JR” Reale, Co-founder and CEO, Station Houston, and Brian Richards, Managing Director of Innovation at Accenture, discussed the importance of fostering an ecosystem with the essential infrastructure to support start-ups, and advance business incubators in downtown.
Event host Station Houston launched its downtown business accelerator a year ago, the facility is now home to over 240 entrepreneur, and 140 mentors. Station Houston’s ongoing success has gained support from companies such as Shell and Chevron. The accelerator has captured the attention of venture capitalists that have provided funding to the aspiring companies. “My vision is to build a district,” says John Reale. “I want to build a technology district here in downtown Houston.” Brian Richards the innovation lead for Accenture stressed the importance of a proactive approach from the City. “We need to develop an innovation ecosystem; we need to take steps to equip entrepreneur with resources.” said Richards.
